Drumheadz is a drum institution situated in the cosy suburb of Linden, Johannesburg, owned by seasoned drummer Andy Maritz, who has years of recording and performance experience in the music industry, nationally and internationally.
At Drumheadz we offer programs of study that range from part time weekly or bi-weekly private lessons. Small group lessons and private lessons are taught by experienced musicians including Andy himself.
Drumheadz is a high-quality contemporary drumming education institution in Johannesburg, South Africa and welcomes students of all ages and skill levels. We aim to have fun while learning and achieving new heights based on each student's personal musical taste and individual goals.
Our goal is the development of well rounded student musicianship through a structured curriculum combined with focus on technical, conceptual and performance training. Our objectives are skills development in the following disciplines:
• Instrumental technique
• Sight reading
• Assimilation of practical information from music theory
• Conceptualisation
• Wide ranging performance experience of diverse music styles and settings
Education programs are designed to present specific material to students in small class settings maximizing exposure to professional, experienced musicians in their specific disciplines.
Owner of Drumheadz, Andy Maritz, is one of South Africa’s premiere drummers. He has graced stages and studio spaces with some of South Africa’s greatest artists and continues to leave his footprint, or rather ‘drumprint’, in the local and global scenes. He has been drumming professionally for close to two decades and have accompanied artists including as Dan Patlansky, Connell Cruise, Joshua Na Die Reën and Duis:Lig on multiple festival stages as well as international and local tours.
Lardo is a former Drumheadz student and has been passionate about drums from a young age. He has also been fortunate enough to have played live on many occasions in a few different settings from the very young age of 6. He is very excited to work with and teach the future drummers of South Africa.
